The body of the engineer was discovered by the guest house staff on Wednesday.
A 31-year-old engineer from Gujarat allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself at a guest house in Kamathipura. The body of the deceased was discovered on Wednesday by the guest house staff, who alerted the police. The Nagpada police are trying to figure out the reason that drove the man to end his life.
The deceased person has been identified as Mayur Bhiubhai Patel. According to the police, Patel had arrived from Gujarat on Tuesday and booked a room at Ripon Guest House around 7.30pm. He was to check out at 10:30am on Wednesday. When around 12.30pm, Patel did not check out, the staff visited his room.
When Patel did not open the door, the staff entered the room using a duplicate key and found his body hanging. The guest house then informed the police control room. The control room then passed on the information to Nagpada police. Patel's body was sent to Nair Hospital for post mortem. The police had recovered Patel's diary from the spot in which Patel stated that he loved his wife and wanted her to marry after his death.
Patel's uncle and Vapi resident Dinesh, said, "On Tuesday Mayur had left his Vapi home saying that he was going to office. Around 2.30pm, when his family called him, he did not answer the call. After several hours, we launched a search for him and finally lodged a missing complaint with Vapi police."
He added that on Wednesday, the Nagpada police informed Patel's family about the alleged suicide. The family then arrived in the city within a few hours of the call. "We are in deep trauma and are unable to understand how a cheerful man like Mayur can commit suicide. We don't know why he came to Mumbai," he said.
