Women bikers lead his cavalcade; Bohras, divyangs offer grand welcome en route

Gujarat’s diamond city witnessed the biggest roadshow in its history on Sunday as Prime Minister Narendra Modi embarked on a two-day tour of Gujarat.
Crowds thronged the entire 11-km stretch from Surat airport to Circuit House in Athwalines to catch a glimpse of the PM, who was coming from Bhubaneshwar, where he attended the BJP’s national executive meeting and received a rousing welcome during a roadshow on Saturday.
This is Modi’s first visit to the city after the party’s resounding victory in the recent Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
Modi landed at Surat airport at 6:45pm, where he was welcomed by CM Vijay Rupani, deputy CM Nitin Patel, MPs and other party leaders. It was a sight to behold as the PM began his roadshow at 7.20pm from the airport, with a total of 81 women bikers leading from the front, followed by 25,000 more bikers.

All throughout people waved at him, chanted slogans in his support, and jostled to take selfies with him. The roadshow culminated at Circuit House at 9.20pm.
The PM did not address any public meeting, and, according to sources, chaired a meeting with Rupani, MLAs, MPs and party leaders till late night. He will leave for reach Dadra & Nagar Haveli (D&NH) on Monday.

When Surat decked out for the PM
⇒ Decorations were based on themes such as Swachh Bharat, Make In India, Digital India, Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao and Smart City Surat
⇒ A 12-km-long sari, embossed with information on government schemes, was tied from Surat airport to Circuit House
⇒ A sand art was created by renowned artist Sudarshan Patanaik
⇒ 3 buildings along the route were adorned with decoration lights that reflected PM’s image
⇒ The roadshow route was decorated with various types of umbrellas
⇒ There were 45 welcome points and DJs’ at various points along the route
⇒ The PM was welcomed by different communities, including Dawoodi Bohras, at nine locations along the route
⇒ 40 Divyaangs welcomed the PM at Sai Baba temple near Surat airport
Congress leaders detained
Congress councilors Ashok Jirawala, Dinesh Kachhadia and Girish Pansuria and other leaders were detained by Detection of Crime Branch of Surat police as preventive measure to avoid any untoward incident. They were released late on Sunday.
