Guj govt promotes 14 IPS officers, four of them to DGP rank

The Gujarat government today promoted 14 senior IPS officers, including four seniormost officers, who were given the DGP rank from their present rank of Additional Director General of Police (ADGP).

The state government promoted Deputy IG rank officer Abhay Chudasama to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) rank.

Chudasama, who was an accused in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh alleged fake encounter case, was the range DIG of Panchmahals prior to the promotion.

Chudasama had been discharged by a special CBI court in Mumbai two years back in the encounter case. He had been promoted as the DIG last year and transferred to Panchmahal as the Range DIG.

Ahmedabad police commissioner A K Singh, who is an ADGP rank officer, has been promoted to the DGP rank, a notification by the state Home Department stated today.

Three other IPS officers, who have been elevated to the DGP rank are: ADGP-Intelligence Shivanand Jha, ADGP-Law and Order Tirth Raj and ADGP-CID Ashish Bhatia.

Shamsher Singh, serving as the Inspector General of Police (IGP) of Surat range, has been promoted to the ADGP grade, the notification said.

Manoj Agarwal, an IGP rank officer serving as the secretary with Home Department, has also been promoted to the ADGP rank.

The state government also promoted seven other Deputy IG rank officers to the IGP grade. These officers are: DIG Armed Units (Gandhinagar) Brajesh Kumar Jha, DIG Intelligence H G Patel and DIG Coastal Security S G Trivedi among others.
