Directorate of Revenue Intelligence sleuths have seized 'foreign origin gold' valued at Rs 2.45 crore here and arrested two persons in this connection.

Acting on a tip-off, DRI officials intercepted and questioned D L Thara and L K Zou, who arrived by the Guwahati-Trivandrum Super Fast Express at the Central Railway Station yesterday, an official release said today.

On being questioned, they admitted that the gold was concealed in two bags carried by them, it said.

The duo were allegedly carrying foreign origin gold smuggled through the Indo-Myanmar land border.

"8,330 grams of foreign origin gold of 24 Karat purity valued at Rs 2.45 crore that were concealed in the bags carried by the two passengers were seized," it said.

The two passengers were arrested on charges of smuggling gold under the Customs Act and remanded to judicial custody, the release added.
