In one week, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has ruffled a lot of feathers with his no-nonsense approach. While the mainstream media has focussed mostly on the crackdown on illegal abattoirs and anti-Romeo squads, those aren’t the only decisions he has taken so far. That he is firm on maintaining proper decorum, hygiene and punctuality in the official machinery became clear on the very first day in office when he undertook a round of the CM Secretariat, personally looking into every nook and corner which was never visited by any chief minister in 40 years. Repulsive paan (betel) stains on the walls, layers of dust on files piled up over the years, missing officials and staff caught his attention during the surprise check.
Here are some of the important decisions he has taken since coming to power:
1) Rs 1,00,000 subsidy for healthy pilgrims who want to go for the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra
2) Asked PWD to make sure all roads are pothole-free by June 15
3) Set up of anti-Romeo squad to crackdown on eve-teasing
4) Local officials to be held accountable if eve-teasing takes place
5) Anti-Romeo squads asked to not harass couples
6) Police asked to behave in a civil manner with people
7) FIRs to be registered immediately
8) Compulsory for one female cop and one inspector to be present in police station’s reception area
9) Water and sitting facility in police station’s reception area
