His story is right out of the novel by Sophia Kinsella where Samantha Sweetings, a successful corporate lawyer quits her job and starts a career as a housekeeper. Meet Rohith Ashok, the 28-year-old corporate lawyer who has given up his high-paying job to pursue his passion for travelling on a bike.

Hailing from Chennai, he had been working for a top law firm in Mumbai for four-and-a-half years till September 2015. After this he decided he would quit his job and explore his other interest.

"I rode back to my hometown in Chennai from Mumbai, and that was a major booster. I wanted to ride across the country on my 500cc Enfield Bullet Thunderbird and make documentaries on the way I looked at travelling, studded with anecdotes. I travelled to Ladakh that year, and after returning, I went on a number of other trips," he said while talking to DNA.

This year, on March 11, he set off from Chennai for the seven northeastern states of India and stopped in Bengal for some time before he leaves for Arunachal Pradesh.

Ashok's way of travelling is different compared to conventional travellers. While others sit and chalk out plans, Ashok just rides and stops at his own will. "I have a destination but with no fixed route or time frame. I find local people most interesting, and talking to them gives me all the info which others can not provide. I like to visit unknown remote corners to find something interesting. I take a video, add a voiceover and then upload those on to Youtube. People have been following my videos, and have left encouraging comments," the traveller said.

He added, "I like to travel alone because I have not met too many people who would like to travel like this. It is more of an attempt to quench wanderlust." So far he has clocked about 35,000 km across the country.

"My parents had made sure that I completed my formal education, and now they know I have worked very hard to get to where I am now. They have allowed me to follow my passion. It is a lot easier said than done and I am grateful to my family members for their support," he said.

Interestingly he has been funding his trips out of the savings he had made working as a corporate lawyer and aims at making a career out of his travel. "I have left a corporate career to flesh out a living out of my passion. But I don't have any plan as of yet about how to generate any revenue from this. All I have is a lot of documented experience and I am sure I will be able to do something out of it," Ashok said.
