After Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh in Haryana and Falahari Baba in Rajasthan, a self-styled Godman Baba Siya Ram Das of Udaseen Akhara in Uttar Pradesh landed into police custody on charges of rape.
Self-proclaimed Baba Siya Ram Das was believed to be associated with Udaseen Akhara, a prominent Akhara of Hindu sadhus and saints. But Mahendra Giri, the Head of Akhara Parishad, has rejected his claims. "The arrested Baba Siya Ram Das has nothing to do with Udaseen Akhara. He was never associated with Udaseen AKhara. He is a fraud and fake Baba," said Giri.
Police said that the victim Rani (name changed) was allegedly sold by her own relatives to a female disciple of Baba Siya Ram Das for Rs 50,000 about eight months ago. The victim was jobless and her relatives lured her that the lady would get her a job in Baba's one of the school at his Ashram in Mishrikh, about 25 kms from Sitapur district.
Baba Siya Ram Das is having a sprawling 250 acres Ashram in Mishrikh. He also runs a girls school. His lady disciple Mintu Singh is the principal of the school. "I was taken to Baba's Ashram in Lucknow, Faizabad and Bara Banki by the Principal and finally to Mishrikh where I was raped by the Baba the whole night. He also made my MMS and threatened to keep my mouth shut," alleged the victim.
After rape, the victim was sent to Agra Ashram where she was kept for about eight months before returning to Mishrikh Ashram again. "I was raped by others during my stay in Agra and others places. Baba raped me again when I reached back Mishrikh Ashram. Somehow, I managed to call the police from Baba's mobile," said the victim.
The SSP Sitapur M.P. Singh confirmed that the girl was rescued by the Mishrikh Police from Baba's Ashram after the distress call on Tuesday. "We have recorded victim's statement and based on that arrested and booked Baba Siya Ram Das under Section 376 of the IPC," said the SSP.
The victim has also revealed that Baba was running a sexual racket in the Ashram through the School. "Many girls of Baba's school were subjected to rape. They don't raise their voice against Baba, his disciples used to make their MMS. These girls were also supplied to politicians and bureaucrats," alleged Rani.
"We are cross-checking her allegations against Baba. We will slap more charges on the arrested Godman if charges were found true and more girls from Ashram came out to record their statements against him," said the SSP.
After being arrested, Baba Siya Ram Das has, however, pleaded innocence. "I have never seen and met this girl before. Her allegations against me are false. Someone has conspired to frame me by using her," said Baba Siya Ram Das.
