Former MLA from Tamil Nadu Bader Sayeed has filed a fresh plea to declare the 'triple talaq' as invalid in law and unconstitutional, reports The Deccan Chronicle. The triple talaw which comes under the Shariat law makes it possible for Muslim men to unilaterally exercise the power of divorce.  

Sayeed pointed out to the court the issues Muslim women face due to arbitrary divorces imposed upon them by men and their inability to seek justice from the court.

 A Muslim woman on Wednesday moved the Supreme Court against the 'triple talaq' system to nullify the prevailing divorce practice.

On Wednesday, a 25-year-old Afreen Rehman, a resident of Jaipur who has been a victim of the 'triple talaq' system, filed a petition with the apex court after receiving a divorce letter through speed post seeking intervention into the matter.

The Centre has set a high-level committee to review the status of women in India and according to reports has recommended a ban on the practice of oral, unilateral and triple talaq (divorce) and polygamy
