Makkal Needhi Maiam president Kamal Haasan on Wednesday warned the Centre of non-cooperation movement if it failed to form the Cauvery Management Board.

“We used the non-cooperation movement during the freedom struggle against the British. If you (Centre) don’t form the CMB, Tamil Nadu will in a peaceful way not cooperate with the Centre… You understand where it will lead to. I am not going to threaten. I believe in ahimsa which is the highest form of bravery. Let us talk,” Haasan warned while addressing his party rally in Trichy in the Central Tamil Nadu.

Insisting that the CMB should be formed, Haasan said that when the people were hoping for an end to the dispute with the Supreme Court’s ordering formation of the CMB within in six weeks, the centre was delaying the constitution of the board under the pretext of legal technicalities. He said that the delta farmers have been denied their rightful share of Cauvery river water for a long time which has complicated more in the last 25 to 30 years.

Earlier, the actor turned politician also hit out at the ruling AIADMK government saying that it was acting like subservient to the centre rather than upholding the state’s rights on the Cauvery issue.

“While it was the Centre's responsibility to constitute the CMB, the state government cannot hallucinate that it has fulfilled its duty towards the people who elected them by just filing a contempt petition after the deadline or by holding a farcical one-day hunger strike", he told reporters.

On the criticism of being not being critical of the centre, he said that he does not believe in making personal attacks or using harsh words against anyone. “My intention is to revive the political culture in the state which has degenerated over the years,” he said.
