After facing flak from Congress over his foreign tour amid the agrarian crisis in the state, Pandurang Fundkar, Minister for Agriculture, on Wednesday, said that there were many more members of the Opposition who took part in the delegation.

Commonwealth Parliamentary Association had organised a tour to three countries, where two ministers, including Fundkar and Girish Bapat, Minister for Food and Civil Supplies, represented the state. The 16-member delegation, which visited Australia, New Zealand, and Singapore on a 14-day study tour, also had members from other parties.

Fundkar said that the delegation did not comprise of just ruling party representatives since the number of legislators from the Opposition parties was more and included Legislative Council Chairman Ramraje Naik Nimbalkar (NCP), three Congress members including Council Deputy Chairman Manikrao Thakare, Sanjay Dutt, and Sharad Ranpise. "Neelam Gorhe, MLC, Shiv Sena, was also present at the delegation," Fundkar pointed out.

He, however, said that it was not practical for the farming and dairy development technologies used abroad to be replicated in India, considering the practical realities, where the average per-capita-landholding was low compared to these countries.

Fundkar also informed that even though the agricultural practices and equipment intensive nature is not worth replicating in the state, he has sought the details from countries like New Zealand, which have farmer suicide mitigation policy in place. He said that after studying this policy, measures applicable for the state would be adopted.
