First day of UP Budget session ends in chaos as opposition members throw paper missiles at Governor Ram Naik

Members of the Samajwadi Party, Bahujan Samaj Party and Congress members threw paper rockets at Uttar Pradesh Governor Ram Naik on the opening day of the budget session of the Yogi Adityanath-led BJP government in the Assembly.

Sporting red, blue and white caps and carrying placards, the SamajwadiParty, BSP and the Congress members stormed the Well the moment Governor Naik started his customary address to the joint session of the State Legislature.

Following the unruly behavior, marshalls created a human shield around the Governor to thwart paper missiles but Naik’s 38-page speech highlighting the BJP government’s achievements was lost in the chaotic scenes, noise and din for over an hour and half before the Speaker H.N. Dixit adjourned the House for Friday.

Two draw the chief minister’s attention towards the plight of potato growers, two SP legislators, Sanjay Lathar and Rajesh Yadav, came in the House wearing potato garlands as a mark of protest.

Unfazed by the opposition creating chaotic scenes and firing paper missiles at him, the Governor went on to continue his speech. The more he referred to Yogi government’s welfare schemes, the shriller was the catcalling from opposition.

Despite heavy security bandobast after the July powder bomb hoax, opposition members managed to bring in multi-colored balloons released them into the air inside the asembly risking their own security.

Earlier, Samajwadi Party members had staged a dharna outside Vidhan Bhawan in protest against fake encounters, victimisation of members of minority community after Kasganj communal clashes and the plight of farmers.

Later, the UP Assembly Speaker H.N. Dixit and the Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath condemned the opposition members for creating chaotic scenes and their unruly behaviour during the Governor’s joint address to the State Legisature.

“The behavior of the opposition members during the Governor’s address was condemnable,” the Chief Minister said after the session was adjourned.
