A day after Hyderabad police claimed to have busted an international call racket after raiding a house in Habeeb Nagar here, a father-son duo was today arrested allegedly in connection with the case.
Fahad Ahmed Siddiqui and his father Waseem Ahmed Siddiqui, were held on charge of illegally routing international calls by terminating the international incoming calls through Internet using VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) Gateway equipment, a release from Hyderabad Police said.
"They thus were cheating the Government of India and causing huge financial loss to the Department of Telecommunications and security threat to the nation for their illegal gain," the release said.
The duo was running internet calls business center for past several months, and there by cheating, and causing revenue loss to the Department of Telecommunications, Evasion of Service Tax, Income Tax for their illegal gain, police said.
Routers, mobile phones, passports, few airguns have been seized from their house, said the release.
"It was revealed that the accused are running this business by an illegal international call routing wherein incoming calls are received in the form of data through Internet.
"This data is connected to VOIP gateway (laptop) that converts the data into voice calls, which are disseminated to the receivers," the release added.
