Pressure is mounting on Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti to quit and pave the way for Governor’s rule in a bid to restore normalcy in the restive state.

Leading the charge is National Conference President and former chief minister Farooq Abdullah, who has called for Governor’s rule, and placing the Legislative Assembly under suspended animation.

“Placing the Legislative Assembly under suspended animation is unavoidable and imperative to restore normalcy in J&K. The PDP-BJP alliance is bereft of a political agenda and had been forged with the singular purpose of attaining power,” said Farooq.  Abdullah noted that changing the CM will not solve the problem currently facing Jammu and Kashmir.

“Changing horses midway won’t help. The government has become extremely unpopular and has lost the faith and support of the people. It was evident a couple of days ago when female attendees at a government-organised event at SKICC refused to be addressed by the CM. They even stormed out of the event raising slogans,” he said.

Batting for Governor’s rule, Abdullah said that although it is not an ideal solution given the present situation, it is the only option.
