After getting backing from Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), the Bharatiya Kisan Sangh has started indefinite Mahapadav (sit-in) at all the divisional headquarters in the state on Thursday. It is seeking a special session of Vidhan Sabha to announce financial relief for the farmers.

In the state capital, the Kisan Sangh started its Mahapadav at Shipra Path ground and started the agitation for one dozen demands including waiver of loans, increase in minimum support price, bonus for farmers, installation of electronic balance in state mandis and subsidy on crop insurance. As it was the first day, farmers could not reach the Mahapadav sites in large numbers.

The Kisan Sangh national general secretary Badrinarayan Choudhary participated at the sit-in organised by the association in Bharatpur. During the dharna, Choudhary told media that the farmers of the country are forced to commit suicide due to poor economic conditions but the government has not made any policy in interest of farmers. He also said that farming resources, seeds and other agricultural equipment have become too costly now a days and farmers do not get proper value of their produce due to which economic condition of farmers has deteriorated.

At the Jaipur dharna, Bharatiya Kisan Sangh state general secretary Kailash Gandoliya has demanded the state government to rise above party politics and call a special session of the Vidhan Sabha for the formation of policies for economic growth of farmers. He also said that during the session, all the legislators should discuss farmers interests and form a comprehensive policy. Farmers of Rajasthan are also under huge debt and thus the state government should decide the minimum support price for the crops. Apart from this, bonus should be given to farmers to bridge the gap between cost and sale value of produce.

Meanwhile, the farmers have decided that they would continue protests unless the government accepts their demands. Agitating farmers have made all the arrangements for food and water at the Mahapadav sites in the state.

5,000 FARMERS PARTICIPATE

Indefinite ‘mahapadav’ of farmers began in Jodhpur district with over 5,000 farmers assembled at the district collectorate here on Thursday. Large number of farmers from Phalodi, Osian and Bilara got together on day 1 of protest.
