Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis today paid rich tributes to former state Chief Minister Marotrao Kannamwar saying he was a grassroot leader who held sway over the people.

"Such was his influence that during (1962) China war, on his appeal for funds and gold, maximum collection of gold was from Chandrapur after Mumbai," Fadnavis said while inaugurating the 'Karamveer Kannamwar Cultural Hall'at Mul in Chandrapur district.

Fadnavis also unveiled Kannamwar's statue in presence of Union Minister Hansraj Ahir and state Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar.

"Even though Dadasaheb was from Congress, we being in opposition fought for his memorial. I'm glad that as a Chief Minister, I got to unveil this memorial", said Fadnavis.

The Chief Minister also felicitated family members of Kannamwar and Anup Pohekar, sculptor of the statue.
