Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) with Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) facility will be used in the Bhoranj By-polls that is slated on April 9, a Himachal Pradesh Election Department official said today.
After pressing the button on the EVM, a VVPAT slip will be generated and the voter will have seven seconds to check the voting information printed on it, including the candidate's name and the party's symbol, he said.
VVPAT ensures transparency in the entire election process, the official said.
The voter list for the Bhoranj Assembly constituency has been uploaded on the election department's website and for more information one can call on the toll free number '1950', he said.
The seat was vacated following the demise of senior BJP leader Ishwar Dass Dhiman in November 2016.
Dhiman had won this seat six-time in a row, since he was elected to the Assembly for the first time in 1990.
There are 75,719 voters in the Bhoranj Assembly segment, including 37,514 male and 38,205 female voters, he said.
The official urged the electorate to exercise their franchise on April 9. The results of the by-poll will be declared on April 13, he said.
