Dalit activist turned MLA Jignesh Mevani asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to choose between the Constitution or the Manu Smriti — the book of rigid Hindu code at Yuva Hunkar rally on Tuesday.
Mevani claimed that the BJP was targeting him, Hardik Patel and Alpesh Thakore as they had crushed its target of 150 seats in Gujarat.
In a counter attack, BJP’s Sambit Patra described it as rally of ‘Break India Brigade’ which is being patronised by the Congress.
“It is not a Dalit Rally but ‘Dal-Hit’ rally (referring to Congress and Left),” said Patra.
The rally organised to demand the release of Bhim Army’s founder Chandrashekhar Azad failed to live up to its mammoth size because of some deft moves made by the Delhi Police.
The Police had officially denied permission for the rally on Monday which turned away thousands of supporters. Assured of thin presence, the Police finally granted the permission on Tuesday which a surprised the organisers who had come to mark token protest.
The rally was addressed by Prashant Bhushan, Kanhaiya Kumar and Umar Khalid.
