Elections to three seats in the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council from the local authorities constituencies (LACs) of Kadapa, Kurnool and SPS Nellore will be held tomorrow.
In all, nine Council seats were to be filled in this election but in six of them, candidates were already elected unopposed. These are Srikakulam, East Godavari, West Godavari (two seats), Anantapuramu and Chittoor LACs.
Two of the incumbent MLCs will retire on March 29, while the term of seven others will end on May 1 and hence the biennial election.
The ruling Telugu Desam Party and the opposition YSR Congress (YSRC) are locked in a straight fight in the three poll-bound LACs.
Representatives of local authorities are eligible to vote in these elections. There are 841 voters in Kadapa, 1,084 in Kurnool and 852 in SPS Nellore LACs. The two parties have been holding "camps" for their respective voters in cities like Puducherry, Bengaluru and other places.
In Kadapa, YSRC strongman Y S Vivekananda Reddy is facing B Ravi of the TDP.
In Kurnool, sitting MLC Silpa Chakrapani Reddy of TDP is fighting Gouru Venkat Reddy of YSRC, while in Nellore another sitting member Vakati Narayana Reddy of the ruling party is up against Anam Vijaykumar Reddy of the opposition party.
