Welcome to the troubled South Kashmir, where Kashmiryat (pluralistic culture) was in full bloom on Friday.

A middle-aged Kashmiri pandit couple greeted the procession of Eid Milad-ud-Nabi (Birthday of Prophet Mohommad) by distributing candies to the Muslims as a token of love and affection.

Vimal and Shushma Tickoo surprised the people when they lined up on the route of the Milad procession and showered candies.

Carrying a bag full of candies, the couple was distributed the toffees to pedestrians a mark of respect.

“We are greeting them on the auspicious occasion. We are welcoming them. We do it every year”, said Vimal Tickoo.

Hailing from Mattan area of Anantnag and braving sub-zero temperatures, the couple came out of their home to greet the procession.

“They too join us when we celebrate our festival. We have so much of brotherhood in our area. There has been no problem in Mattan. They are our well wishers”, said Shushma Tickoo.

The gesture of the couple stole the hearts of the local Muslims. Selfies and handshakes followed. A young Muslim man came forward to click selfies with the couple as a gesture of love from the majority community of Kashmir.

The video of the kind gesture by Pandits have gone viral on social networking sites. Director General of Police Dr Shesh Paul Vaid also retweeted the video of Pandit couple distributing candies to the people during Milad procession.
