Pinning down the Qureshi-politician-bureaucrat nexus, the ED has provided a detailed account of the bribery charges in the corruption case that has shaken the country’s bureaucratic, political and corporate elite.
Billionaire businessman Moin Qureshi transacted “huge amount of money” for obtaining “undue favours” from bureaucrats and politicians, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has said in a letter to the CBI after a month-long investigation.
Pinning down the Qureshi-politician-bureaucrat nexus, the ED has provided a detailed account of the bribery charges in the corruption case that has shaken the country’s bureaucratic, political and corporate elite.
“Moin Akhtar Qureshi has taken huge amount of money from different persons for obtaining undue favours from said public servants or politicians holding high public office during the relevant point of time,” states the three-page letter to the director of the Central Bureau of Investigation.
It says that Qureshi used his personal contacts, by corrupt or illegal means, to influence many public servants for getting undue favours.
During the search and survey of Qureshi and his associates under Foreign Exchange Management Act,1999, ED also recovered various records related to dirty money, an official said.
Documents and BBM massages revealed that the alleged money launderer and middleman and his associates used the money to acquire immovable property situated outside India.
On February 16, 2017, the CBI registered an FIR against Qureshi of AMQ group of companies, his associate Aditya Sharma and Pradeep Koneru, owner of Trimex group, former CBI director AP Singh and other unknown persons for criminal conspiracy and illegal gratification to influence public servant during 2011 to 2013.
Koneru is the son of Rajendra Prasad Koneru, booked in a disproportionate assets case. He was negotiating with Qureshi for a meeting with then CBI chief to discuss his father’s bail, BBM messages between the two reveal.
