The Shiv Sena in its editorial hit out at former Maharashtra deputy chairman Ajit Pawar for calling the party a bunch of earthworms, the Indian Express reported.

Earthworm is a friend of farmers,” an editorial in Shiv Sena’s mouthpiece Saamna said, adding that nobody takes Pawar seriously in state politics though he continues to command respect on account of his being the nephew of NCP chief Sharad Pawar.
“Your question is what the Sena has done while being in power, but what is your contribution to the state? You have only secured benefits for yourself when you were in power. When farmers came to you seeking water, you talked about urinating. Is this your love for farmers? Comparing you to a snake will be an insult to the snake,” said the editorial.
The Shiv Sena and BJP have been at loggerheads over a number of issues for at least the past year. The most recent criticism of the BJP-led NDA government on part of the Sena was regarding the salaries in Parliament. Squarely blaming the government for the logjam in Parliament, the Shiv Sena Thursday said it is "not on the same page" with the BJP on the issue of the NDA MPs forgoing their salary for 23 days of the ongoing budget session during which the House did not function due to disruptions.
Arvind Sawant, a Shiv Sena MP from Southwest Mumbai, said his party was not consulted before the decision to forgo salary and allowances was taken.
The Sena has been highly critical of the policies of the Centre as well as the state. Parliament has not carried out any substantial work over the last 22 days
