If one goes by the words of a Tamil Nadu minister, the widespread rains in the state in the past two months are a result of special prayers to propitiate the rain god.

Agriculture Minister R Doraikkannu today said 'varuna yagams' or havans had been conducted in several Lord Shiva temples in the state following water shortage.
