Hard work more powerful than Harvard: PM Modi mocks Amartya Sen over demonetization criticism

Mocking economists, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said "hard work is more powerful than Harvard" as the latest GDP data shows demonetization did not affect growth rate, rather the figures improved. "On the one hand are those (critics of note ban) who talk of what people at Harvard say and on the other hand is a poor man's son who through his hard work is trying to improve the economy," he said at an election meeting.

Afghanistan: One killed in Taliban claimed multiple attacks in Kabul

At least one person was killed and 35 wounded on Wednesday in Taliban attacks on different parts of the Afghan capital of Kabul, the ministry of public health said. A ministry spokesman said one person was killed in an attack on an office of the main intelligence agency on the city's eastern outskirts, while at least 35 people were wounded in a separate attack on a police office in the west of Kabul.

ISSF World Cup: Jitu Rai wins 50m air pistol gold, Amanpreet bags silver

Ace Indian shooter Jitu Rai on Wednesday clinched a gold medal in 50m men's air pistol event in the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup. Rai shot a world record score of 230.1 to bag the number one spot. Whereas, his compatriot Amanpreet Singh​ also won a silver medal in the same event.

GDP at 7% belies exaggerated claims of rural sector distress: Arun Jaitley

The demonetization quarter of 2016 (October - December) registered a gross domestic product growth of 7%, higher than most of the estimates given out by global entities and ratings agencies. However, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, while talking about the GDP figures said that "the third quarter was substantially impacted by demonetization. It had led to a squeeze of currency." "GDP number belies exaggerated claim by many that rural sector was in distress; agri growth at record high," Jaitley said.

Reliance Jio Plans

Earlier,  this month, Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani made a huge announcement regarding Reliance Jio - customers who own a Jio SIM card will soon be able to register for Reliance Jio Prime membership programme.

Jio has now introduced new prepaid and postpaid plans for Jio Prime users. To become a Jio Prime member, you need to pay Rs 99 as an annual subscription fee. You can opt for Jio Prime before 31st March 2017. The service will come in effect starting April 1, 2017.
