The Telangana government today said it would take action against AICC general secretary Digvijaya Singh if he failed to apologise to the state police over his allegation that the police has set up a "bogus" ISIS website to radicalise Muslim youth.

"Congress is not (in power) in the state or Centre. They do not have any chance to come to power. So, they are trying to make some false charges on our police," state Home Minister Nayani Narasimha Reddy said.

"Whoever makes (allegations), he (Singh) has to apologise to our police. Otherwise, I warn that the state government will take action as per law," he added.

Singh, in-charge of the Congress affairs in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, recently kicked up a row with his comments on the Telangana police, drawing sharp reactions from the ruling TRS and Telangana DGP Anurag Sharma.

In a post on his Twitter page on May 1, Singh had said, "Telangana police has set up a bogus ISIS site which is radicalising Muslim youths and encouraging them to become ISIS modules."

Based on a complaint lodged by TRS MLA M Gopinath, who represents Jubilee Hills constituency, the Hyderabad police had registered a criminal case on May 4 against Singh under relevant IPC sections. In his complaint, Gopinath had accused Singh of defaming the police through his comments.

Singh was booked under IPC sections 505 (1), (1)(b) and 505 (2) for making the alleged statements, intended to cause or likely to cause public fears or alarms and inducing people to commit an offence against the state or public tranquillity or to create or promote ill-will between the two classes of people, police had said.
