Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday ordered a high-level inquiry against a senior IPS officer of IG level accused of taking Rs 1 crore bribe for helping Babbar Khalsa terrorist involved in Nabha jailbreak case.

The inquiry would be conducted by the Additional Director General of Police (ADG) Law and Order Anand Kumar.

The ADG (Law and Order) Anand Kumar is also ADG STF.

The Chief Minister took the decision after hearing the taped conversation and termed it as a 'serious matter'.

The IPS officer in question Amitabh Yash, the Inspector General, Special Task Force (STF), who was summoned by the Principal Secretary Home Arvind Kumar on Wednesday afternoon. He pleaded innocence and claimed that charges against him were ‘baseless’.

“All allegations against me are baseless and I have never had any connections with terrorists,” he said on charges of Rs 1 crore bribe. He, however, did not answer questions relating to conspiracy theory against him.

The Punjab Police had recently intercepted a call between liquor trader Randeep Singh Rippal and Amandeep, accused in Nabha jail-break case.

In the tape they were discussing to pay off a bribe of Rs 1 crore to an IG-level senior IPS Officer of UP cadre for the release or escape from police custody of another accused Ghansham Pura, arrested by UP STF and lodged in Shahjahanpur District jail.

After intercepting the call, the Punjab Police arrested Rippal,Amandeep, Harjinder Singh Kahlo and a Congress leader from Sultanpur Sandeep alias Pintu Tiwari.

During interrogation, they revealed the about the shady deal. They claimed that RS 45 lakhs were already paid through a mediator to the IPS officer.

Following their startling disclosure, the Punjab Police handed over the case to the Punjab ATS which in turn contacted the State Principal Secretary, Home Arvind Kumar and the UP DGP Sulkhan Singh. The news intercepted call caused a flutter in the IPS circles. The Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath summoned the PS Home and the DGP and ordered a high-level probe.

“The Chief Minister is seized of the matter. The ADG (L & O) will probe allegations. The accused IG will not be removed till the investigation is over. Any action will be taken only after the report is submitted,” said the DGP.

The UP Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) is also in touch with their counterparts in Punjab. Sources in ATS confided that apart from Rs 45 cash, the accused was also gifted a Mercedes as a part of the deal.
