Did Doodarshan censor Narendra Modi’s interview?

Days after an interview featuring Narendra Modi was aired on the state-run Doodarshan (DD) TV, the public broadcaster and the Information and Broadcasting (I&B) ministry led by Manish Tiwari are faced with criticism for editing the interview to omit out sections which supporters of Bharatiya Janata Party prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi say were crucial. A new controversy is brewing even as Doordarshan has clarified that nothing was censored. 

According to newspaper reports, the Narendra Modi interview was nearly an hour long at the time of recording, but later a few interesting quotes by Narendra Modi were spliced out of the final version. The edition that was finally aired was merely 37 minutes long. 

Among the comments that were deleted, the one that has become the most talked about is the one where Modi says Priyanka Gandhi is “like his daughter” and that in Indian culture “daughters were not targeted”. Modi has not so far responded to any of the verbal attacks being made by Priyanka, choosing to evade questions on her. On the other hand Priyanka has hit out at Modi's 'daughter' comment by countering it with her own 'I'm Rajiv Gandhi's daughter' comment.

Earlier rumors on social media suggested that DD might not run the interview at all. BJP supporters claimed that Congress led central government had decided to axe the entire interview, but Jawhar Sircar the head of the public broadcaster cleared these doubts and aired the interview on April 27.
