The Congress Party is not against banning of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 currency notes, but is against the "mismanagement" by the BJP-led NDA government, said Congress spokesperson and Lok Sabha MP Ranjeet Ranjan.

Interacting with reporters after attending the fourth day of the Hornbill Festival at Kisama, 12 kms from Kohima, Ranjeet said the BJP government's claims that demonetization has been imposed to overcome terrorism, fake currency and corruption, was "wrong".

The government is unable to get hold of actual black money and has decided to put over 100 crore people in queues outside banks for their own money, out of which 45 crore are daily wage earners and people belonging to the small business community, Ranjeet said. She claimed that following the imposition of demonetization, the country was losing at least Rs 1.3 lakh crore while the GDP was sliding by two points and the Centre has already spent Rs 13,000 crore on printing of new currency notes. "Is the Government really working to bring out black money or is it merely to harass the public, specially the middle, poor and labour class people" she asked.

She lamented that farmers were not getting money for seeds, sowing and harvesting. As the spokesperson of AICC, Ranjeet also called upon Congress workers in Nagaland to mobilise programmes and projects for development of the state.
