The government is considering putting up BJP-RSS ideologue Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay's 100th birth anniversary logos on all government-published books and advertisements, adding to his ongoing, year-long birth centenary celebrations.

The Publications Division and the Directorate of Advertising and Visual Publicity (DAVP) — media units under the Information and Broadcasting (I&B) ministry — are responsible for publishing books and government advertisements respectively.

The latest plan follows a request from BJP President Amit Shah, who had recently written to I&B Minister M Venkaiah Naidu, seeking increased publicity of all schemes and programmes related to Upadhyay.

The letter states all literature and advertisements published by the section must carry Upadhyay's 100th birth anniversary logo. "If it has still not been done, then arrangements should be made (for the publication of logos)," the letter states.

The Publications Division publishes books on history, literature and also on the lives of eminent personalities, among others.

An official statement in February had mentioned that the media unit in February had signed an MoU with Sasta Sahitya Mandal for joint publication of books on "heroes of freedom struggle, cultural leaders and other eminent personalities who had contributed to nation development". Books on the lives of Upadhyay, Dr BR Ambedkar, Mahatma Gandhi and Bhagat Singh were part of the list.

DAVP is the media unit which releases government advertisements.

An official from the ministry said the logo has not been designed as yet. "The government has not yet taken a final call on the matter," the official added.

In last year's annual budget, Rs 100 crore was dedicated for the birth centenary celebrations of Upadhyay, which will include numerous events across the country aimed at creating awareness on Upadhyay's 'integral humanism' doctrine.

Last year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi constituted two committees for commemorating the birth centenary of the BJP ideologue. The Prime Minister chairs a 149-member national committee, while home minister Rajnath Singh heads a 23-member executive committee.
