Day temperature rises in HP; freezing cold in higher hills

Day temperatures rose by a few notches in most areas of Himachal Pradesh today while higher hills and tribal areas reeled under temperatures below the freezing point.

The MeT office has warned of hailstorm at isolated places in lower and mid hills on February 28 and March 1 and predicted rain or snow at isolated places in mid and higher hills during the next four days.

The weather remained dry in the region and mercury rose to 28.6 and 28.4 degrees Celsius at Sundernagar and Una while Nahan recorded a high of 24.2 degrees Celsius, followed by Solan 22.5, Bhuntar 22.0, Dharamsala 21.0, Shimla 18.3, Manali 16.6 and Kalpa 13.0 degrees Celsius.

Minimum temperatures stayed 10 to 15 degrees Celsius below the freezing point in high altitude tribal areas while Keylong recorded a low of minus 9.6 degrees Celsius, followed by Kalpa 0.4, Manali 3.2, Bhuntar 4.0, Solan 4.5, Sundernagar 5.0, Shimla 5.8, Palampur 6.8, Una 8.0 and Dharamsala 10.8 degrees Celsius.

The forecast of hailstorm by the MeT department has caused anxiety among the farmers as it is considered harmful for rabi crops and stone fruits.
