A Trinamool Congress (TMC) party office at Chowk Bazar was vandalised on Wednesday and a police vehicle set ablaze. Councillors of TMC-led Mirik Municipality have alleged that they were being pressurised to resign from their posts.
Arson still continued in the area with Raj Rajeshwari Hall at Kurseong being burnt on Tuesday allegedly by GJM members. The Bengali community hall was built in 1930, and was undergoing a renovation. The state government had provided a fund of Rs 38 lakh for the repair and renovation of the century-old community hall where Durga Puja is celebrated every year. Sources said, a group of masked youths set fire to the place after dousing it with kerosene, late into the night and fled.

On the other hand, sportspersons joined hands in the Gorkhaland movement to protest against the state government.
More than two dozen sportspersons conducted a relay run around Mall Road, Darjeeling. They organised the protest under the banner of Darjeeling Hill Runners, and were joined by common people in spite of the rain. "While all are expressing themselves and are demanding Gorkhaland, we wanted to do something as well. Thus, this relay run," said Palden Roka, a member of Darjeeling Hill Runners.
Nari Morcha — the women's wing of Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) — organised a rally on Wednesday and said that July 21 will be observed as 'Dhikkar Divas' condemning police atrocities which had claimed eight lives in the hills.
