Claiming that the unrest in the Darjeeling hills is born out of the politics of revenge by Mamata Banerjee, state PCC president Adhir Chowdhury today said the people in the hills and tourists were now caught between 'Didigiri' of CM and 'Dadagiri' of GJM chief Bimal Gurung.

"With the TMC supremo's gameplan to capture the hills coming to a nought, with the TMC not succeeding to come to power in Darjeeling, Kalimpong and Kurseong civic boards, she is now resorting to the politics of revenge. Why did she say in Mirik that if you stare at me I will hit back? Where was the need?" Chowdhury told reporters here.

Accusing Banerjee of resorting to the politics of threat and intimidation, Chowdhury said, "The common man in the hills and tourists are now in a miserable condition caught between the 'Didigiri' of CM and 'Dadagiri' of Gurung. This tactic she had employed in the plains in past also by using the weapon of threat-temptation."

Chowdhury said that the chief minister's statements were confusing.

"At one time she said that Bengali is compulsory for everyone and again coming up with a rejoinder that the language is optional for Darjeeling. Different comments at different times are raising doubts about the credibility and believability of the CM of West Bengal."

In a dig at the TMC government's move to order special audit of GTA, Chowdhury said, "They are sending five officers for the audit. But have there been any audits in the Mirik Municipal Board, in Kolkata Municipal Corporation, in Dakshin Bango Unnayan Parishad and Sunderbans Unnayan Parishad where the TMC is at the helm?"

"This again proves this government wants the Opposition to either surrender ot face consequences," he said.

Chowdhury said the Congress would organise a 'Siliguri Chalo' on June 17 aimed at bringing back peace to Darjeeling and "affirming the bond between people in the hills and plains."

"We don't have the resources to take so many people to the Hills as we will not get the help of police and administration by TMC. And we think Siliguri is the most appropriate place in Darjeeling Hills for such a rally against the politics of division. Congress will not let it happen," he said to a question why Siliguri and not Darjeeling Chalo.

About GJM's newly raised demand for Gorkhaland, Chowdhury said, "We must get to the bottom of truth. And who first gave legitimicay to the cry for Gorkhaland, who first coined the word Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA)? It was Mamata Banerjee."
