Cyclone Nilofer: Western Railways announces precautionary measures

In anticipation of Cyclone Nilofer hitting Kutch district of Gujarat on Saturday, November 1, Western Railway has taken precautionary measures to deal with the storm. Nilofer has been classified as a 'very severe cyclonic storm'. According to forecasts, Maliya near Bhuj, Gujarat, may face the brunt of the storm. Western Railways says it is taking precautions in Maliya, Bhuj and Gandhidham areas.

Among the arrangements being made are: 

* Setting up of round-the-clock Disaster Management Centre.

* Mobilising all officers and staff.

* Adequate arrangements made to ensure communication to every extent possible through satellite phones and walkie-talkies.

* Adequate provision of drinking water, lighting, communication, food, medical facilities and security arrangements.

* Provision of diesel generator sets for power supply with adequate stock of diesel.

* Keeping ARMEs/Accident Relief Trains in readiness.

* Liasoning with district authorities, NDRF on a regular basis.

* Rescue and relief material to be unloaded at suitable locations.

* Patrolmen to be deputed at vulnerable locations.
