After the Assembly polls drubbing in May, Congress high command decided on Thursday to work out a mechanism for reorganisation of the party at various levels in Kerala. The framework of the mechanism would be decided by party vice-president Rahul Gandhi. The plan was to complete the process of reorganisation in three months time, Congress general secretary in-charge of Kerala Mukul Wasnick told reporters in New Delhi.

The decision in this regard was taken during a high-level meeting of Congress leaders from Kerala with Gandhi in New Delhi on Thursday. "Gandhi will be finally deciding on the mechanism for the reorganisation and it will be decided very soon," Wasnick said. Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president VM Sudheeran, former chief minister Oommen Chandy and Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala were summoned by the party high command for talks. "Reorganisation will be done at all levels in the party and will be completed in three months," he said.

Replying to a question, Wasnick said the reorganisation will be done at various levels but KPCC president Sudheeran would be there. "We want the party to be vibrant at every level," he added. Since the UDF was ousted from power in the Assembly polls in May, there were demands from various quarters, including factions led by Chandy and Chennithala, in the party for a change in KPCC leadership and holding of organisational elections.

Last month, Gandhi had met more than 80 second-level party leaders from Kerala and sought their opinion on party affairs in the state.
