A village panchayat in Dadri fined a Congress leader Rs 1 lakh for issuing triple talaq to his wife after 30 years of marriage. The case appears to be the first after the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) issued new guidelines, stating that triple talaq could not be issued without a valid reason.
The Congress leader Meherban Malik, a resident of Nai Basti, Dadri had picked up a fight with his wife and mother-in-law a few days ago. The local Congress leader got so annoyed after the verbal dual that he issued triple talaq on his wife.
Meherban had got married with Shameena (name changed) 30 years ago and has a son and two daughters. The wife raised the matter with the village panchayat following which Meherban was counselled and asked to live with his wife.
However, Meherban continued to demand that he get a divorce and allegedly even picked up a fight with Panchayat members when they drafted an agreement for the compromise and withdrawal of triple talaq.
During the proceedings Meherban failed to answer queries raised by the Panchayat members. His three children also sided with their mother and held him guilty. When Panchayat failed to convince the Congress leader, it unanimously passed an order slapping a fine of Rs 1 lakh and ordering to ostracise Meherban from his house and the village.
After thrown out from his own house and village, the local Congress leader and businessman is now living in his office, situated on the GT Road.
BOMB BLAST ACCUSED GIVES TRIPLE TALAQ OVER PHONE
Meanwhile, Nagpur bomb blast accused Shamsuddin Shah gave triple talaq to his Hindu wife, who had changed her religion to marry him. Both had got married in 2011.Within 16 months after the marriage, Shamsuddin’s named figured in Nagpur blast case in July 2012 and he was arrested. He was released from jail in October 2014 and started living with another Hindu woman. Recently, he called his wife and and pronounced triple talaq over the phone.
Nisha then approached local religious to intervene but they offered no help saying that in Islam once triple talaq is pronounced, it’s final. Finally, she lodged an FIR with the police. The ASP Banda Ajay Pratap said that they were investigating the case on the basis of charges leveled by the victim in the FIR. Local VHP leaders are making this as a case of love jihad.
