A Congress corporator today asked the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) not to invite the writers Tarek Fatah and Taslima Nasreen to the city for their "Anti-Islamic" views.

Iqbal Shaikh, the corporator, today wrote to the Municipal Commissioner Mukesh Kumar and the Mayor Gautam Shah, saying that he had learnt from his "sources" that AMC was going to invite these "controversial personalities" to inaugurate a book fair in the city.

Muslims were angry with Fatah and Nasreen because they present "distorted image" of their religion, and invitation to them may "dilute the peaceful atmosphere of the city", Shaikh said in his letter.

The Mayor as well as the Commissioner could not be reached for comments.
