The Congress on Sunday unanimously passed a resolution at its plenary session, authorising party president Rahul Gandhi to choose members of the new working committee.

Senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad moved a resolution, proposing that the new party chief selects his own team of the working committee, the highest decision-making body of the party.

Azad earlier asked the delegates whether there should be an election for the working committee, an idea which was outrightly rejected by them.

The Congress president will have to set up a new CWC in place of the steering committee which was formed after the working committee was dissolved by him.
The working committee will be established after the plenary session.

Earlier on Sunday, Rahul Gandhi launched a scathing attack on BJP government in his concluding remark at the two-day plenary session.

Gandhi compared the BJP government to the Kauravas from Mahabharat for their ''growing arrogance'' in the country.

"Centuries ago there was huge battle on the field of Kurukshetra. The Kauravas were powerful and arrogant. The Pandavas were humble and fought for the truth. Like the Kauravas BJP and RSS are designed to fight for power, like the Pandavas, Congress is designed to fight for truth," said Gandhi.

"Will India live a lie or will India have the courage to face the truth? Today, the corrupt and powerful control the conversation in the country," Gandhi said. "We were the fastest growing economy in the world. But today millions of youth face unemployment."

While attacking the PM Modi-led government, Gandhi also admitted for letting the nation down during UPA's last regime.

"I don't say it with happiness but the last government we formed did not stand up to the expectations of the people. The people of the country were let down by us," Gandhi said.

"We have to change Congress. There is a wall between our leaders and workers. My first task will be to break that wall. I will consult senior leaders to destroy that wall with love," he added.
