Chief Minister V Narayanasamy today urged Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh to depute a team to the Union Territory to study the drought situation, which had hit farmers following monsoon failure.

during a meeting with the latter in Delhi.

Narayanasamy and all the ministers of his cabine met Singh at New Delhi and also urged him to consider Puducherry government;s plea to upgrade the State run Agriculture College in Karaikal into an Agriculture University, a release said.

Puducherry government had already sent a report to the Centre projecting crop loss in Puducherry and Karaikal regions for want of rains and also lack of water in Cauvery river system.

As much as Rs 100 crores had been projected as estimated loss of crop due to drought.

They also called on Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and sought expeditious sanction of more funds for Puducherry to meet its budgetary commitments, the release said.
