Chief minister Vasundhara Raje was down with viral fever. And doctors had advised her complete rest. But even high fever could not hold her from leading from the front to ease the tension that had gripped Ramganj area since last three days. Raje reviewed the grave situation on Sunday midnight when the administration and police failed to break the ice. She didn’t took time in giving ultimatum to BJP chief Ashok Parnami and her Man Friday Yunus Khan - also the Muslim face of BJP - to defuse situation before the dawn. She once again proved her political acumen and vision in dealing with this unforeseen grave challenge which could have taken dangerous turn if not nipped in the bud. After resolving Jat Gurjar quota stirs, this resolution will only add to her growing confidence and political stature.

“There were intelligence inputs that Congress leaders like Ghulam Nabi Azad and Ashok Gehlot would be coming on Monday morning to take political mileage from this mishap. Raje didn’t want Ramganj to turn into a political battlefield. She deputed her trusted lieutenant Yunus Khan for the task,” said a BJP leader.

The two BJP leaders then didn’t waste time and took help of priest of Moti Dungari Ganesh temple Kailash Mahant, who has high degree of respect and regard cutting across  communities and political parties. Being an apolitical face, the immense credibility of  Mahant had a key role to play in negotiations with the family of the deceased. Mahant enjoys respect of all state chief ministers irrespective of party alignments. That was the reason his presence was critical to convince the family of the deceased and relatives who are known to be Congress affiliates. The dialogue which started post midnight ended with an amicable agreement at 2.30am on Monday. The family agreed to the postmortem of the body followed by respectful burial making way for ease in tension and relaxation in curfew.

How Parnami, Yunus Khan helped resolve the tricky issue

The role of state BJP chief Ashok Parnami, who is also  MLA of Adarsh Nagar constituency of which Ramganj is a part, was also critical. He held rounds of meeting with peace committees and relentlessly pursued the family of the deceased to resolve the row.

For Yunus Khan, who is gifted with a rare ‘innocence’ on his face, once again emerged as a troubleshooter for Raje government. A close aide of chief minister, of late, he has replaced another tried and tested troubleshooter of the party - Rajendra Singh Rathore - taking the virtual No. 2 position in the party. Rathore, though, still has great relevance as he is pressed into service in important and complicated matters. But this episode has helped Yunus Khan gain some extra mileage in minorities as well as within the party. Khan is a smart political operator with good rapport with powerful leaders in centre and state. He enjoys good relationship with union surface transport minister Nitin Gadkari and plays a bridge in the execution of centre funded road projects in Rajasthan. His role in bringing NHAI to execute Jaipur’s Ring Road and road projects worth Rs 15,000 crore, which were recently announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, was immense. He was also actively involved in the preparations of PM’s visit at Udaipur last month.

The roles of Police Commissioner Sanjay Agrawal and senior officials of Chief minister’s office were also critical in toning down the emotions that were running high at one point of time. Timely intervention of Agrawal prevented the situation to take any communal colours and saved the harmony of the city.

The deceased family was represented by 6 members of Muslim community  - Maulana Manzzor Ali, Shabbir Ahmad, Packer Farooq, Shaukat Quereshi,  Amin Qagzi and Maulana Anwar Shah.

Points of consensus
