Stone pelting, clashes and protests rocked city of Srinagar after Mehbooba Mufti government lifted 18-day long curfew from most of the places in the Valley on Tuesday, even as authorities have decided to restore the post-paid mobile phones from Tuesday night.
More than 15 people received injuries in the clashes with security forces at different places across Srinagar and Anantnag. Separatists call for opening shops in the afternoon too bombed after groups of youth erected barricades on the roads in some parts of the old city and did not allow the normal routine to resume.
"We have received 15 cases. All of them are out of danger," said Dr Nazir A Chaudhary, medical superintendent of Shri Maharaja Hari Singh (SMHS) hospital here.
Massive clashes erupted after authorities lifted the curfew from entire Kashmir except Anantnag on Tuesday. Old Srinagar city, which was under curfew since July 9, too woke up to the relaxation but the groups of youth immediately enforced the lock-down again.
All roads were blocked and traffic was not allowed. Shopkeepers were not allowed to open the shops after 2pm even as the separatists had called for resuming business for half day to stock essentials.
Later in the afternoon, hundreds of youth organized protest marches at different places and tried to head towards Lal Chowk. However security forces immediately swung into action and fired tear smoke shells and pellet guns to prevent them to reach the historic Lal Chowk.
Shops opened in some parts of the valley on the call of separatists in the afternoon. Private cars also plied normally though the public transport remained off the roads.
