Singer Chitra Singh, wife of ghazal maestro Jagjit Singh, attended Sankat Mochan Sangeet Samaroh here but politely declined to perform citing health concerns.

Chitra said she hasn't sung for the past 27 years and it was very difficult for her to even speak now.

She, however, thanked the jam-packed audience for showering their love and affection on her.

"For the past 27 years I haven't sung and it is now even difficult for me to speak for a longer duration, so singing is out of question for me," said Chitra, who stopped performing after her son Vivek died in a road accident in Mumbai in 1991.

The singer visited Sankat Mochan temple earlier yesterday and offered her prayers to Lord Hanuman.

The Sankat Mochan Sangeet Samaroh began with a Kuchipudi performance by Padmaja Reddy of Hyderabad followed by famous singers Pandit Vishwanth and Pandit Manu Maharaj.

Other performances were by Kolkata-based sitar player Ustad Nishat Khan, Gufam Ahmad Khan of Afghanistan, who played Rabab and a vocal performance by Pandit Devashish Dey and Shubhankar Dey.
