West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday once again hit out at the Central government over the Punjab National Bank fraud, saying that it wasn’t the only bank involved and the names of other banks would surface in future.

“It had been part of a long term planning. Other banks like Baroda Bank and Canara Bank are also involved. Specific people had been hired dubiously for the purpose. The plan was made a year ahead of notebandi. If a thorough investigation is conducted, many big names would be unearthed. We need to find out who all are involved in this fraud,” she said.

Without naming the BJP, the West Bengal Chief Minister also alleged that several large parties were spending crores to win polls, but cautioned that money won’t be able to buy democracy.

She also talked about the newly-build BJP party office in New Delhi and said that it was unfortunate that a party like BJP was in power at the Centre. “It is infringing upon people’s rights and making its own wealth, setting up one of the world’s largest party offices in New Delhi. What is worse is that they are shamelessly taking pride in saying so. A political party is supposed to be for the people and to work for the welfare of the people. Common people don’t want to see if the party has millions of rupees. They want to see if the party is transparent enough,” she said.

Training her guns at the Centre on the issue of the proposed Financial Resolution and Deposit Insurance (FRDI) Bill she said that the Centre intended to rob people of their hard-earned money. “If people deposit their money at banks, they get robbed. If they are investing in chit fund companies, they are robbed as well. Poor people are keeping their hard-earned money in banks which are giving it to the rich to help them lead a luxurious life,” she said, adding that while the Centre was talking of going cashless, there were 700 panchayats in West Bengal that didn’t have a bank.

Taking a dig at the Centre’s ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ scheme she said with the little money allotted, it was more of a ‘beti tarao’ (drive away the daughter) project. “They have allotted Rs 100 crore for the entire country so each state gets roughly Rs 3 crore. We have a population of 10 crore. So each person’s share comes to 30 paise. Bengal has spent Rs 5,000 crore through Kanyashree, in the state and each year we are spending Rs 1200 crore. They have to learn a thing or two from us about how to work, before they make tall claims,” she added.
