Central line rail traffic affected after engine wheel derails

Rail traffic on the central line was affected for over an hour after a wheel of an engine of Nizamuddin-Ernakulam Mangala Express derailed while entering Kalyan station this afternoon, a senior central railway official said.

No one was injured in the incident, said the official.

"The incident took place when one wheel of the engine (locomotive) of Nizamuddin-Ernakulam Mangala Express derailed while entering Kalyan station at 2.18 pm," said the official.

Due to this, suburban services on both the Up and Down directions were affected for nearly an hour. The Central Railway runs trains between CST to Karjat, Khopoli and Asangaon.

A statement issued by the public relations department of central railway said General Manager of the Central Railway Anil Kumar Gupta, along with senior railway officials went to the site to supervise the rerailing of the engine.

The derailed engine wheel was rerailed at 3.55 pm. The Kalyan-Dombivali Municipal Corporation (KDMC) ran four buses from Mohane to Kalyan for the benefit of passengers," the release added.
