Nashik police have filed a case of alleged forgery and criminal breach of trust against noted playback singer Suresh Wadkar and three others in connection with registration of a plot of land in Nashik district, on the directions of a local court, a police official said today.

The case is related to the ownership of land, ad-measuring 6,600 sq mt (square metres), located in Mouje Devlaligaon village under survey no 7/13 (A). The complainant in the case, Mukund Kokil, alleged Wadkar and others forged documents and registered the property in Wadkar's name in the Revenue Office even though the original owners of the land had entered into a development agreement with him in 2008.

"We registered a case against Suresh Wadkar, Vinayak Vishnu Dhopavkar, Vijaya Nilkanth Karandikar and Vishnu Ramchandra Shinde yesterday under various sections of IPC for forgery, criminal breach of trust, cheating and criminal conspiracy in connection with a land deal at Mouje Devlaligaon under survey no 7/13 (A)," said in-charge of Upnagar police station, HM Sawant.

Among the four accused, Dhopavkar, Shinde and Karandikar are the original owners of the land and had made agreement to sale with Wadkar, another playback singer Sonu Nigam and one Kothikar in 2008, he said.

Sawant said the owners while making a sales agreement with Wadkar and others also allegedly entered into a development agreement with complainants Kokil, Akbar Sheikh and others for the same land.

"Following this, Kokil moved a civil court in 2008 which appointed a receiver for the land. Meanwhile, Wadkar and three others allegedly prepared fake documents for the same property and registered it in Wadkar's name as owner of the land at Revenue Office here during 6-2-2013 and 31-10-2014," Sawant said.

Police allegedly refused to register a complaint against Wadkar after Kokil had approached them in August this year, following which he approached the court of Nashik Road Judicial Magistrate who directed police to register offences against Wadkar and others yesterday.

Efforts to contact Wadkar for his reaction did not fructify.
