Pune police today registered a case of abetment of suicide against the wife of Marathi film producer Atul Tapkir and two others.

Tapkir (35), who had produced the film "Dhol Tashe" (2015), allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison inside his room at a hotel in the city yesterday.

Late on Saturday night he had posted on Facebook that he was going to commit suicide due to the problems between him and his wife.

He also alleged that his wife's two `brothers' had assaulted him.

"We have registered a case of abetment of suicide against Tapkir's wife Priyanka, and two others, Kalyan Gavhane and Balu Gavhane, under section 306 of IPC," said a police officer of Deccan Gymkhana police station. Kalyan and Balu were not related to Priyanka but she apparently treated them as brothers, the officer added.

Atul's father Bajirao Tapkir lodged a complaint against them, the officer said.

Based on the Facebook post and his father's complaint, the case was registered, the officer said. No arrest has been made yet.

Tapkir, a resident of Pimple Nilakh near Pune, alleged in the Facebook post that his wife was harassing him.

She had registered a case against him and his father over a family dispute, and the police took Rs 10,000 for not arresting him and his father in the matter, he alleged.

The film produced by him didn't do well and he had lost a lot of money which led to marital problems, he said.
