Raghavendra Ganesan, a victim of Brussels Metro blast attack who last visited his home in Bhayander merely 20 days after the birth of his child, wanted to settle down in Pune with his family after four months upon completing his project in Belgium.

He had informed his family and friends about this decision during his visit. However, on Monday, the ministry of external affairs announced his death, reportedly caused by injuries in the serial blasts in Belgium.

"He was so desperate to settle in India. He had plans to settle in Pune after returning," said Dilip Naik, a neighbour and childhood friend of Raghavendra.

"Apart from studies, cricket was also his passion. We would spend the entire weekend holiday playing the game when we were young," Dilip adds.

Anand Singh, another friend, recollects him as a humble and studious person. "He always kept to himself but at the same time was courteous and friendly"

Raghavendra's family was not available for comment as his body is being flown to Chennai from Brussels.

A pall of gloom descended the Saint Francis school in Bhyander, where he studied. "He was not only a meritorious student but also good in extra-curricular activities like science competitions. He actively participated in them every year and even excelled in it," said Sabina Tavares, a teacher.

The school held a special prayer session for the well being of its former student.
