Police today questioned the brother of a key suspect in the Kodanadu estate break-in and murder case, near here.

Dhanapal, elder brother of key suspect and deceased Kanagaraj, a former driver of former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, was questioned in Kothagiri for over four hours, police said.

There was political interference in the case and my brother was made a scapegoat, Dhanapal alleged while speaking to reporters after the inquiry.

Kanagaraj was not involved in the crime and he has no no role in the break-in and murder of the guard, Dhanpal, who is an AIADMK leader in Salem district, claimed.

Kanagaraj was killed in a road accident in Salem on April 29 while another key accused Sayan was injured in a mishap in Kerala on the same day.

The gang members had planned the dacoity based on Kanakaraj's information that there was a huge amount of cash in the bungalow of late Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, police had said.

So far eight people have been arrested in connection with the break-in and murder of a guard at Kodanadu estate on April 24.

The Kodanadu estate figures in a disproportionate assets case involving jailed AIADMK general secretary V K Sasikala and late Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, among others.
