BMC to waive off parking charges at 4 major tourist spots

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to waive off parking charges at four major tourist destinations in the city on Sundays and other bank holidays, a senior civic official said.

The move is aimed at boosting tourism in the metropolis.

The four spots which have been given a parking fee waiver are Gateway of India, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vaastu Sangrahalay, Juhu Chowpatty and Girgaum Chowpatty, said the official.

"As part of our policy to boost tourism in the city, we (the BMC) already provide 50 per cent discount at our pay-and-park slots in other parts of the metropolis on Sundays and bank holidays.

"Going a step further, the civic administration has decided to offer free parking at four major tourist destinations on similar days," said the officer.

The civic administration has made necessary changes in its parking policy.

The BMC is currently rejigging its parking policy, with an aim to provide sufficient parking slots and spaces in the city.

The Mumbai traffic police have given the BMC a list of 450 locations across the city, which it has identified as potential pay-and-park lots.
