Parul Sahu, BJP MLA from Surkhi in Madhya Pradesh, today said she will not contest the next Assembly election in 2018, as she was told that she had been unable to contribute much to the party.

"I was told that at a meeting of BJP's managing committee the issue was raised that the party is not getting the kind of support I was supposed to give. Therefore I have decided I will not contest the election in 2018," she said, speaking to reporters here.

"I have already formally informed this to the state BJP's organisation general secretary Suhas Bhagat," she said.

Asked whether she will reconsider her decision if the party asked her to, Sahu said, "I will remain firm on my decision of not contesting."

She maintained that she was satisfied with the development work being carried out in her constituency. The area was very backward and she tried her best to ensure its development, the MLA added.

With her efforts and blessings of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, development work worth Rs 500 crore was sanctioned for the area which would lessen people's sufferings a lot, she said.
