A day after Trinamool Congress' youth wing president Abhishek Banerjee lashed out at BJP at Sabang in West Midnapore, ahead of bypolls on December 21, BJP state president Dilip Ghosh and BJP MP and Union minister Babul Supriyo along with others conducted a meeting on Sunday at Sabang.

At the meeting, Ghosh accused the Mamata Banerjee-led government of indulging in politics of appeasement and alleged that there had been no development at Sabang and that it had been given step-motherly treatment by the state.

"The TMC government had not done any development here in spite of the Central government sanctioning Rs 678 crore to build canals to help prevent floods. It is just a huge scam. The canals have been dug haphazardly," Ghosh said, adding that most of the money had been re-routed to the party fund.

He also said that Sabang was famous for its mats but Mamata did nothing to ensure the development of that art. Referring to the role of Manas Bhuniya, who had been a Congress MLA since 1982 before defecting to the TMC, he accused him of being an opportunist who switched over for his own personal interest.

"So far, there has only been politics of corruption, violence and opportunists who overlooked the interest of the common people by depriving them of basic facilities. There needs to be a change to be brought about here," he said.

Supriyo reiterated that Mamata had been claiming all the credits of providing rice at Rs 2 per kg to the common people but in effect Food Corporation of India (FCI) was buying the rice at Rs 33 per kg of which, the Centre was providing Rs 29.67 per kg, the state was paying Re 1 per kg and consumers were paying Rs 2 per kg for the rice. He also alleged that corruption galore in the TMC government in the implementation of the Centre's Swachh Bharat mission.
