An alarm clock discovered beneath a small bridge at a village in Aurangabad district of Bihar on Tuesday created a bomb scare among the public, but the police said no bomb was discovered from the spot.

Aurangabad Superintendent of Police Babu Ram said, "A timer was found beneath a bridge at Ketaki village under Deo police station in the district. Our personnel went there and found no explosives attached to it. It has been removed from the spot."

The SP said it was not clear whether it was a mischief by somebody or whether the clock slipped from somebody's belonging inadvertently or was planted by Maoists. Deo Station House Officer Pramod Kumar said the timer was an ordinary alarm clock and said that it could have been planted by Maoists as a part of their strategy.

Aurangabad is a Maoist infested district and has seen a number of violent incidents in the recent past. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit adjoining Gaya district on August 9 to address a political rally.
